Another armed robbery at Northgate

On Friday morning, May 1 between 10.10am and 10.30am an armed robbery took place at a jewellery shop in Northgate shopping centre.
Five suspects wearing balaclavas entered the shop and held employees at gunpoint. “One of the suspects was believed to be carrying an AK47 riffle, said Captain Ndlovu of Roodepoort police station, cluster spokesperson for the weekend.
The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery. They fired a warming shot in the air and drove off in their car which was parked outside the entrance. No one was injured.
A woman working at a nearby shop, facing the parking lot, saw the men flee the scene and heard the gun shot. One of her employees had seen the armed suspects enter wearing balaclavas; they immediately closed their doors and took the customers into the storeroom for safety.
Police officers from various stations in the area attended the scene and went in search of the suspects. The suspects managed to get away and are still at large.
There are unconfirmed reports that this is the fifth robbery at jewellery stores in Northgate, with the last one being just two months ago at the same shop.
“A case of armed robbery has been opened by the Honeydew police station and police are investigating the case, said Captain Ndlovu.
