Another Sasol garage robbery
Three people were wounded in a shoot-out at a Sasol garage in Randpark Ridge - the second robbery at a Sasol petrol station in the past week, Johannesburg police said on Saturday.
"The owner of the garage walked into a robbery," said Inspector Kym Cloete.
The incident happened at the Sasol garage in Beyers Naude drive in Randpark Ridge, north west of Johannesburg, around 6.30pm.
A shoot-out ensued and the owner was shot in the leg while a client who was buying something in the garage's convenience store, was shot in the stomach.
The owner shot one of the four robbers in the leg and stomach.
"Four armed suspects entered the Sasol garage. They held up the cashier while the owner was in his office. When he heard the commotion, he walked to the shop," said Cloete.
"The suspects tried to force him back into his office and that is when the shoot-out ensued. The owner did have a firearm. I believe he was able to return fire."
The owner, a man in his 50s, was kicked in the face and shot. He is in a stable condition in hospital, Cloete said.
She said the client, a man in his 40s, was in a serious condition while one of the robbers, believed to be in his early 30s, was critically wounded and is under police guard in hospital.
His three accomplices managed to get away and are still at large.
They made off with cellphones and wallets.
On Wednesday, a woman motorist was shot dead in a robbery at a Sasol garage in Douglasdale on Witkoppen road.
She was refuelling her car when robbers hit the convenience store, firing random shots as they fled.
A bullet went through her car window.
She died in hospital the following day.
