A police officer was shot and wounded on Wednesday while in pursuit of five robbers, Randburg police said.
Captain Douglas Trollip said two officers were chasing a gang of robbers who took an undisclosed amount of money from a cash-in-transit vehicle at a garage on Malibongwe drive early around midday.
"The officers caught up with the robbers who were driving Toyota RunX in the Southgate area minutes after the robbery. When they were confronted by the police they started shooting at them before they managed to escape," said Trollip.
The injured officer who was shot in the stomach was taken to a nearby hospital.
No one was arrested.
