Gunmen target garage, taxi driver in Florida
10 March 2009
A taxi driver was hijacked while dropping off passengers in Florida on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
"He had dropped off all but three male passengers he had driven from Highgate mall. It was then that one of the three men produced a firearm and ordered him to get out," Captain Douglas Trollip said.
He said the men then drove off in the taxi, leaving the taxi driver stranded on the side of a road in Florida.
No arrests had been made and police were on Tuesday still searching for the stolen taxi.
In another incident in the same area, an Engen garage was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money on Monday night.
Trollip said an unknown man walked into a convenience store at the garage between 9pm and 10pm and held up staff at gunpoint.
"He then took the cash and left. It was however not a lot of money," he said.
