Shootings in Joburg leave four dead and one injured
Five separate incidents related to shootings in Johannesburg were logged through ER24's 084 124 number today.
The first call came in for a cash in transit guard that had been shot at a petrol station in Harbeespoort at around 11am, where the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in to assist. Sadly the man died on the scene as the Medicopter was landing to transport him to hospital.
The next call was logged shortly after the first in Muldersdrift, with two men that had sustained alleged gun shot wounds to the heads. Paramedics called for the Discovery Medicopter, which was not available due to having gone out to the first shooting. One of the men was declared deceased on the scene while the other was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
As he was being handed over to the hospital staff, his condition deteriorated rapidly and doctors struggled to stabilise the man's condition. After every effort to save the man's life, he was declared deceased.
The third call occurred within minutes of the first two, it is believed that a woman sustained a gun shot wound to the head in Gillview, she too was declared deceased on the scene due to critical injuries. The details of the incident are at this stage unclear, but it seems that the woman's neighbours called for the ambulance after hearing some sort of disturbance next door.
At around 7 pm, within ten minutes of each other, another two calls for patients having been shot were received by ER24's contact center. The first in Mulbarton for a male patient who had sustained a suspected gun shot wound to the head and had sadly been deceased for some time before paramedics were alerted.
The later, in Midrand, was for another male patient that had sustained a suspected gun shot wound to the chest, but he was rushed off privately to a hospital in Pretoria prior to the arrival of the ambulance.
With a tragic day leaving five people dead and one believed to be in critical condition, one can only hope that these gruesome events come to an end.
