Shootout at Cresta
One man was arrested and four others are on the run after they robbed a Checkers Supermarket at the Cresta shopping mall on Wednesday, Johannesburg police said.
Four armed men gained access to the supermarket through the staff entrance at 7.30am, said Inspector JS Keulder.
"They then held staff at gunpoint, took their cellphones and cash from the premises and began to flee. Whilst they were trying to runaway, police and security guards at the mall were alerted."
Keulder said the men were confronted by police in the parking area, and a shoot-out ensued.
"One man was arrested and the other robbers managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of money."
Police were searching for the suspects, Keulder said.
