Excellence awards for Honeydew police cluster
19 March 2010
Members of the Honeydew policing cluster which includes Honeydew, Roodepoort, Randburg, Douglasdale and Florida gathered in Little Falls, Roodepoort, where they held their first annual awards ceremony.
Members of the South African police service including administrative staff, and community police forums, received recognition for their efforts which have exceeded the boundaries of their regular duties.
Assistant Commissioner Oswald Reddy handed out the awards to deserving members of the police force.
"This occassion is going to be an annual event that we want to hold at a cluster level every year," Reddy said.
"We want to celebrate our successes, recognise, respect and reward the members who work so hard out in the field.
"We also want to recognise those who have partnered with us in the fight against crime such as the community policing forums.
"Mobilising communities has become our key focus in the fight against crime and we cannot win this fight against crime if we do not have community support.
"We want to show gratitude and appreciation for the work that people do. This is going to boost their moral and motivate them.
One hundred and thirty-five awards were issued in recognition of confiscation of guns; successful criminal arrests and convictions; top cop, top reservist and support service awards at each station to mention a few.

In line with Reddy’s vision to recognise community support against crime, 72 awards were handed out to members of the public.
"At the end of the day I am convinced that we are going to reduce, stabilise and prevent crime, not only in the Honeydew cluster but in the whole of South Africa," concluded Reddy.
