Fans from all over Joburg were out in the thousands dressed in soccer gear with flags and vuvuzelas lining the street of Sandton to show their support for Bafana Bafana and to see them for the last time before the take on Mexico in the first match of the World Cup on Friday.

Southern Sun Hotels and Primedia Broadcasting encouraged South Africans to show their support for Bafana Bafana by standing united on June 9, 2010.

Four busses, three open top transporting the Bafana Bafana team members, celebrities and media took to the streets of Sandton today and paraded around the block from Southern Sun Grayston (the home of Bafana Bafana during the World Cup), Rivonia Road, travelling along Maude Street to West Street to Fredman Drive and back to Rivonia Road.

Bafana Bafana were shown the amount of support their country has for them for the World Cup, the streets of Sandton were brought to a standstill to accommodate the estimated 185 000 joyous fans taking part in the United We Shall Stand Campaign.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as South Africans came together to unify as one voice to support their team. The vuvuzelas were out of force and were blown at 12 noon continuing throughout the parade.

Staff of surrounding businesses on the route were lining the balconies and watching from any vantage point possible.

Comments from some of the fans included, “The enthusiasm and spirit is some of the best I’ve seen” and “I can’t believe that I was a part of this, what an honour”, while another said she is very proud to have been apart of this momentous event!

"As Africa’s leading hotel group and founder of Football Friday, Southern Sun Hotels is home to Bafana Bafana, and has been for 15 years. There’s no better place to house the hopes and dreams of our nation. As the proud host of Bafana Bafana, Southern Sun Hotels stand firmly behind our boys, we called on all South Africans to do the same", says Graham Wood, Managing Director of Southern Sun Hotels. Southern Sun’s purpose is to create great memories for their guests and there is no doubt that Southern Sun will in print the memory of hospitality and support in the minds and hearts of Bafana Bafana and South Africans for many years to come.

"We may not be able to run as fast as them, or have their sheer talent but when we hear the first strains of Nkosi Sikilele on June 11, we will all stand as tall as Bafana Bafana,” said Terry Volkwyn, CEO of Primedia Broadcasting.
"It’s crucial that the guys have the homegame advantage in that first match and we wanted them to know that we’re all rooting for them."

It was a sight to be seen! Go Bafana Bafana SA's behind you all the way!
