Drum majorettes Trios take 1st place at Gauteng competition

Drum Majorettes Claudia Delacovia, Lauren Peacock and Tony-Lee Beckton took 1st place at the Gauteng provincial competition
Claudia Delacovia from Allen Glen High School, Lauren Peacock and Tony-Lee Beckton from Maragon competed in the provincial trios competition on Saturday November 8.
Constant rain, running late and missing the dress inspection were a few fears that these young ladies had to endure in the run-up to the competition.
Fortunately upon arrival they discovered that the junior teams where running 2 hours late. The reason? There was no power! "The teams had to perform to music whispering from a microscopic portable CD player." Said Loarain Delacovia, Claudia's mother.
The Trio were the first seniors to perform. "They executed a sterling performance in silence with beaming smiles, poise and synchronization - despite having no power for the music to boom and no cheering crowd due to the rain!" Said Loarain proudly.
With no penalties the team took 1st place and will be competing at the Nationals next year in June.
"Well done girls! You have made your parents, team, school and province proud. We will be cheering for you at the nationals." Said Loarain.
