The Chat Room at Ngwenya Glass Village with the Handy Ma’am

09/03/2011 - 10:00

Spend an interesting morning at Ngwenya Glass Village and hear Moira Osborne, the Handy Ma’am give an introduction to hand- and power- tools and the safe use thereof. She will include a few simple demo's and some project ideas. She’ll give a brief overview of some of the workshops she plans to give at Ngwenya during the coming months.

These will deal with basic plumbing repairs for beginners and basic electrical work which can be undertaken without the need for an electrician – and much much more!

Moira Osborne is an Analytical Chemist by profession but has always had an interest in anything technical. She left laboratory work after 10 years to start designing and building laboratory furniture and fume extraction systems in order to improve the working conditions for laboratory workers and to improve the safety in the laboratory working environment. She started her own laboratory furniture business in 1986 and rented a factory in Industria North for 10 years before buying her own factory in Factoria, Krugerdorp.

She closed the laboratory furniture business in 2002 and since then, has been manufacturing custom-made domestic furniture, doing furniture restorations, home renovations and interior decorating. She has taught many people how to tackle their own manufacturing and renovation projects and has assisted them by manufacturing items in her well- equipped furniture factory.
