Montecasino Bird Gardens celebrates 10 years of family fun, fantasy and learning

Exactly 10 years ago the Montecasino Bird Gardens was borne, bringing a wonderland of bird and animal life to the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. This wildlife sanctuary has since become a haven for bird, reptile and mammal species, unlike any other, fulfilling an important role in environmental awareness and providing a tranquil and fun-filled environment for young and old.

The Montecasino Bird Gardens prides itself on the specialised care it provides to the over 1000 birds and other animals housed at the Gardens, many of which are rare or endangered. The exceptional breeding programme has seen many species being successfully bred and reared in the last 10 years, giving hope and safety to animals whose longevity would otherwise not have been guaranteed.

This is an outstanding accomplishment in itself, and worthy of celebration. Something else worthy of celebration is the 10th birthday of the Montecasino Bird Gardens, and you’re invited to join in the festivities on Wednesday 27 April.

Come and enjoy a magical day of fun, laughter and excitement for children of all ages. Experience the thrill of the “Flight of Fantasy” bird show; enjoy sweets and treats and furry-and-feathered entertainment. There will be lots of giveaways, surprise guests, including face painters, magicians, stilt walkers, mime artists and much, much more.

Take a tour through the main aviary, which houses over 30 species of birds, various reptiles, and endangered Tamarins from South America, take a stroll through the Gardens and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds, and then catch your breath at Café Flamingo, a 90-seater restaurant overlooking the Flamingo Pond, where you can sit and enjoy a relaxing meal after all your adventures.
